Review
Audacity is a program to edit and convert audio files. This program works on Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems. This review will cover the Windows version.
Audacity can be used to record live audio, exporting the sound directly to any digital format. The program offers you to edit the metadata contained in a file, useful for cataloging your songs collection.
Before actually saving a file, you can apply a wide range of modifications to it. You can cut parts, delete them, apply effects, amplify or reduce the volume, convert files from stereo to mono or vice versa, split or join segments, mix, overdub, apply a pitch change and many more. The interface provides a simple way to select the parts you want to modify, by presenting you two panels with a waveform of each channel. By using the mouse, along with a zoom in feature, you´ll be able to mark the target segment accurately.
Audacity can be used to convert audio from any source (tapes, records, etc) to a digital format, that can be later recorded on CDs or DVDs. |
